About

The Century Association Archives Foundation (CAAF) was established in 1997 to preserve, organize, and administer the historical records of the Century Association, the New York arts and letters club founded in 1847.

The Ask

Our task was to reposition the foundation as a distinct, but still connected, entity apart from the Century Association.

Goals
While the site is not meant to serve as a robust digital archive, we still needed to augment the database environment to enhance filtering and search.

Another goal was to elevate the foundation’s other collections, including their library of digitized publications, audiovisual galleries and recordings, curated exhibitions, and past/upcoming events.

Biographical Archive
The foundation’s core offering is CABA (Century Association Biographical Archive), a database featuring individual records for the 3,000+ members that joined the Century from its founding in 1847 through 1922.

The CAAF is a distinct and separate entity from the CA, with a public charter to provide access to researchers from outside the Century Association, while also regularly providing assistance to members, and organizing events and exhibitions within the physical clubhouse. It is important to still maintain ties to the Century, while capitalizing on the website as the chief tool of communication to the public
